Heard good things and bad things about this movie. Well, I liked it.

It’s one of those movies that has a comedy track as well as a serious one. The comedy track is more slapstick than anything, but it still made me laugh. The love angle becomes predictable once you realize that Upen Patel is in fact in this film (for a reason unknown to me. Why do people still insist on casting him?). But it’s still fun.

I actually warmed up to Katrina in this film. Yea, it didn’t take a serious film like New York, but this silly film. Not saying I’m a fan or anything, but I didn’t mind her. That’s saying something, considering I couldn’t stand her before.

Loved all the songs. Forwarded thru Prem Ki Nayya (family decision lol), but Main Tera, Tu Jaane Na, Tera Hone Laga Hoon were all great. Such a good soundtrack.

Some of the comedy did get annoying though, especially the end scenes. It felt like a Priyadarshan movie, with a bunch of things going on at once.

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Wake Up Sid was probably one of the better reviewed films of last year. I’ll admit, it was a bit slow, and a bit predictable, but it’s still an overall great movie. The casting of Ranbir is perfect, and I loved that Konkona was in it and not some regular main-stream actress. Her and Ranbir worked so well as a couple.

Music was nice too, but nothing that I would listen to over and over again. It fit well in the story.

As I’m sure everyone knows by now, BAH involves three ladies, meaning three different stories. We will start with story one, Ranbir Kapoor/Minissha Lamba. We’re subjected to lots and lots of DDLJ references during their journey, which got a bit annoying after a while. But we’re also treated to ‘Aahista Aahista’, which I love. Lucky Ali’s voice just rocks.

The second half of this story is the part I like. Kunal Kapoor was just adorable, I felt bad for him. I felt it kind of hard to believe that Mahi would be that hard hit with what had happened to her, that she kept it with her this long, but I haven’t had that kind of experience, so I guess I can’t say. Jogi Mahi was awesome, I loved it.

Next, Radhika (Bips). I liked this intro, how they came to live together, what kind of lives each one wanted, without marriage. The ways that Sachin (Raj’s friend) gives Raj to break up with her are funny, but the way Raj leaves her just really made me mad. It was such a horrible thing to do. The scene with Bips sitting in the rain is really sad. At this point, I wasn’t liking the movie, because of how much of a jerk Raj was.

Part 2 was better, with Radhika changing her name, being a big star, and making Raj wait on her hand and foot. She said she was never going to forgive him for what he did. Which is totally understandable, I mean leaving her like he did was just cowardly and unforgivable. Which is why the scene at the airport seems forced. I feel they could have left that story how it was.

Enter Gayatri (Deepika). Who really got screwed in this movie. She has the least amount of screen time, the least amount of character development. She’s a taxi driver, and Raj falls for her. Her breaking his heart sets off the second half of the movie, but her sudden change of heart doesn’t make sense. And we also get no indication of why she refused to marry. It seems they just wrapped up that part of the story after Raj gets back.

Though I must say, I hate Deepika. She’s just so gorgeous. She needs to just give me an ounce of what she has, and I’ll be happy.

Performances. Ranbir does an amazing job. I admit, I don’t find him attractive at all, though he does have his moments. But he can certainly act. He does a good job as a jerk in the first half, and as an apologetic fool in the second. Minissha and Bipasha do good in their roles. As I said earlier, Deepika just isn’t given enough screen time or development for her to do anything worthwhile. Maybe the third time will be the charm for her. Supporting cast is also good.

Overall, good movie that could have been better. Though the great music really helps.

Saawariya had potential. Ranbir Kapoor, great genes. Sonam Kapoor? Great genes. And Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji as backups. Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the helm. What could go wrong? Everything.

I didn’t feel for the characters. Ranbir was just a hyperactive guy who sees a girl one time and falls in love. Yes, it happens in Bollywood all the time. And I don’t believe it those times either. Sonam was so completely wasted it’s not even funny. I read that she was mad at how her role turned out at the end, and I sure don’t blame her. All she does is giggle and run. Like someone’s chasing her. Oh wait, Ranbir is.

Rani is really just inserted for star power. Her character is completely useless, and could easily be edited right out. As for Sallu, he’s really the best thing about the movie. Yes, you can read over that about 10 times. It’s really ME saying it. Honestly, I liked him in this one. When his shirt stays stuck to his body, he seems to act better. The only time I was even remotely interested in the movie was during his and Sonam’s scenes. I spoiled the ending for myself, so I knew he’d be back, but when he left, I was bored again.

Overall, SLB pitted Saawariya up against OSO for some unknown reason, and he paid for it. It hyped his movie for quite a while, but in the end, quality matters. And Saawariya is not quality.
